Open to treble voices beginning at age 8, the Choristers, directed by Ted Babbitt, make music at the highest level, and on certain occasions sing with the adult singers of the Christ Church Choir and the Walnut Street Singers.
Choristers have the opportunity to learn both the fundamentals of music reading, as well as high level performance practice and interpretation. Aside from musical benefits, Choristers learn responsibility, teamwork, confidence, respect, and more. The Choristers program is designed not to make future music majors and professionals, rather to equip its members with skills to be used throughout all aspects of life.
The Choristers is a Royal School of Church Music affiliated program; however, no religious affiliation is necessary to join the CSM. Choristers will sing a mix of both sacred and secular works to achieve the aforementioned goals. The Choristers will perform publicly multiple times throughout the year. In addition to choral training, the choristers have unique access to vocal, piano, and violin lessons through the Choir School of Macons relationship with private studio teachers in the area.
The Choristers will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with attendance and experience level up to $45 a month at the highest levels. Each summer, the Choristers’ season begins with a wonderful choir camp (for which financial aid is readily available) in July filled with music making, bonding time, team building, swimming, and more! Choristers can expect to work hard in an educational environment, while having lots of fun making connections with people from the Macon community.
