Jonathan Alan Poe, organ

Sunday, October 5, 2025 | 5:30 PM

Mr. Jonathan Alan Poe serves as the Director of Music and Liturgy of Walnut Street Music at the historic Christ Church (Episcopal) in Macon, Georgia. He holds the Master of Music in Organ Performance from the Townsend School of Music at Mercer University where he studied organ performance, organ literature, and sacred music with Dr. Jack Mitchener. While at Mercer, Mr. Poe enriched his studies through choral studies and literature, including applied lessons in choral conducting with Dr. Stanley Roberts. Jonathan received his Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University where he studied organ and sacred music with Dr. Joby Bell.

He is a native of Mebane, NC. He began his musical training at an early age through private piano instruction with Mrs. Vivian M. Dula of Burlington. During his piano study with Mrs. Dula, he received superior ratings every year in the National Federation of Music Clubs competitions. He continued his musical training with the addition of organ lessons at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter with Ms. Jeannette I. Hassell. Jonathan furthered his musical training in organ with Mr. Robert Burns King of Burlington.

As Director of Music and Liturgy at Christ Church (Episcopal) he serves as the primary parish organist and conducts a robust and vibrant music ministry for people of all ages.

Jonathan studied collaborative accompanying with Dr. Benton Hess and Dr. Andrew Harley at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has had the pleasure of serving as accompanist for several choral organizations throughout North Carolina including the Lexington Choral Society, the Salisbury-Rowan Choral Society, the North State Men’s Chorale in Winston-Salem, and the Appalachian Chorale at the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University.

Mr. Poe has given performances throughout the south in such venues as the Old Salem Visitor Center on the 1800 Tannenberg Organ, the Kenan Chapel at Landfall in Wilmington, First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, Christ Church (Episcopal) in Raleigh, and Saint Michael’s (Episcopal) also in Raleigh, St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Macon, and on the Aeolian organ in Porter Auditorium at Wesleyan College in Macon.
